Alive newborn found at Likas bay



KOTA KINABALU, Dec 20— Police have confirmed the discovery of a newborn baby boy at Teluk Likas Public Park early Saturday morning.

According to a media statement from the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters, authorities received a report at about 6.30am after a member of the public alerted them to the presence of a baby in the area.

Initial investigations indicate that the baby was likely born just a few hours before being found. The infant was discovered alive, in stable condition, and showed no signs of injury. Emergency medical services were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the baby was subsequently taken to Likas Hospital for further medical examination and care.

Police said checks at the location found no eyewitnesses to the incident and no closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the vicinity that could assist the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code, which relates to the abandonment of a child. Efforts are currently underway to identify and locate the individual or individuals responsible.

The police have also notified the Social Welfare Department to ensure appropriate follow-up actions are taken concerning the baby’s welfare.
