Man Found Dead After Alleged Fall From Aru Suites Building

KOTA KINABALU: A 53-year-old local man was found dead after he was believed to have fallen from a building at a hotel in Tanjung Aru here on Wednesday afternoon.

Kota Kinabalu district police chief ACP Kasim Muda said police received an emergency call via the MERS 999 hotline at about 3.07pm alerting authorities to the incident.

“Following the report, a team of police officers was immediately dispatched to the scene to conduct preliminary investigations,” he said in a statement.

Initial investigations revealed that a technician on duty had noticed an object suspected to be a person falling from an upper floor of the building through closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring.

A subsequent check in front of the building found a man lying on the road in an unconscious state.

An ambulance team from Queen Elizabeth Hospital II later confirmed that the victim had died at the scene.

Further examination of CCTV footage showed that the deceased had entered a unit on the 11th floor of the building prior to the incident.

“The initial physical examination by the forensic team found that the injuries sustained were consistent with a fall from a height, and no suspicious external injuries were detected on the body,” Kasim said.

Police have classified the case as a sudden death and investigations are ongoing.
