KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun has called on Sabahans to support the state's football team, Sabah FC, in their FA Cup final against Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) on Sunday.
"On this occasion, I would also like to congratulate the Sabah FC football team for reaching the FA Cup final, ending a 27-year wait.
"The last time Sabah reached the final was in 1998. Let us all come together to support our team as they face JDT on Dec 14," he said at the State Legislative Assembly Building during the 2026 Budget tabling.
Masidi, who is also deputy chief minister, congratulated all athletes who have brought honour to Sabah on the international stage in their respective sporting events.
Among them are pencak silat athletes Nor Farah Mazlan, Mohd Shahrul Zeckry Sulaiman, Siti Nur Khairunissa Hail, and Sazzlan Yuga; bodybuilding athletes Zmarul Al Adam, Meilaura Dora Jimmy, and Nazri Pulong; diving athlete Jellson Jabilin; and e-sports athlete Ealtond Rayner.
He said that to further strengthen Sabah's sporting excellence, RM20 million has been allocated to the Sabah Sports Council for athlete talent search programmes, high-performance training, and preparations for Paralympic athletes ahead of the 2026 Malaysian Games (Sukma) in Selangor.
In addition, a grant of RM5.05 million will be given to 54 State Sports Associations, while RM800,000 is allocated for Mass Sports programmes to encourage wider community participation.
The Sabah government has also set aside RM25 million for the Sabah Sports Board to cover operational expenditures for maintaining and managing sports facilities for the public.
