Sabah PAS’ sole assemblyman to support for Hajiji government

KOTA KINABALU:  Karambunai assemblyman Datuk Aliakbar Gulasan’s decision to back the Hajiji-led administration is consistent with his long-standing working relationship with the state government.

PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said although the sole Sabah PAS is not part of the current Sabah Cabinet, Aliakbar had previously served within the same administration as a nominated assemblyman, giving him familiarity with its policies and direction.

“Now that he has been elected by the people, supporting Hajiji will allow him to fulfil his responsibilities more effectively as the representative for Karambunai,” he said in a statement today.

His remarks contrast with the position voiced a day earlier by Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who indicated that Aliakbar would sit with the opposition based on information presented during a leadership meeting.

Tuan Ibrahim clarified that PAS had already communicated its stand at the PN meeting, stressing there is no dispute among coalition members regarding Aliakbar’s role.

He said the party’s support is meant to reinforce the chief minister’s leadership and contribute to a stable state administration.

Aliakbar secured the party’s first elected seat in Sabah by winning Karambunai seat with 7,054 votes in an 11-cornered fight, defeating candidates from Warisan (6,689 votes), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (4,818 votes) and Barisan Nasional (4,475 votes).
