Kota Kinabalu — Sabah’s renewable energy ambitions received a major boost with the Teck Guan Solar Project emerging as the fastest-progressing solar development in the state, setting a new benchmark for execution and collaboration.

ECoS Director of Generation Capacity Development Department, Emelinah @ Akin Binti Ampon, described the project as a significant milestone for Sabah’s energy sector, noting that it was the first solar project to sign the Solar Power Purchase Agreement (SPPA) and commence physical implementation.“

"It is with great honour to acknowledge a significant milestone in Sabah’s renewable energy sector, marked by the exceptional progress of the Teck Guan Solar Project.

“The accelerated pace of development reflects exemplary project execution, steadfast commitment, and effective coordination between Teck Guan Solar, ECoS, Sabah Electricity and all stakeholders involved.”

Emelinah added that the project’s rapid advancement not only demonstrates operational excellence but also sets a strong benchmark for future energy developments in the state.

Scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026, the project is expected to contribute substantially to Sabah’s renewable energy capacity, strengthen energy security, and support diversification of the state’s energy mix.

Once operational, Teck Guan Solar will feed clean electricity into the SESB grid via a 33kV underground cable to PMU Kolombong, supplying stable power to the Kota Kinabalu industrial and residential areas.

Beyond energy generation, Emelinah highlighted the project’s broader socio-economic impact.“This project creates valuable local employment opportunities, builds technical expertise, and reinforces Sabah’s vision for sustainable industrial and economic development under the Sabah Energy Road Map 2040 (SE-RAMP 2040),” she said.

Since the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement in 2025, development progress has been notably swift. As of late December 2025, key milestones achieved include 100 per cent completion of site clearing, earthworks and perimeter fencing, 90 per cent completion of rooftop solar mounting structures, and 80 per cent installation of rooftop solar PV modules.

According to Emelinah, this momentum reflects the strong synergy between the developer, TG Solar Sdn Bhd, and the EPCC contractor, GV Borneo Sdn Bhd.“

You have proven that with the right technical expertise and dedication, we can meet and exceed our aggressive timelines,” she said.

She also commended the project’s outstanding Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) performance, noting that 35,608 safe man-hours have been recorded without any Lost Time Injury (LTI).

“This is a gold standard that all state-level projects should aspire to,” she said.

On behalf of the state, Emelinah extended her appreciation to all parties involved, including developers, technical teams and industry players.
