UMS students joined hands to clean flooded houses at Kampung Rampayan

KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), in collaboration with the Sepanggar Parliamentary Office, recently organised a Major Clean-Up Programme to help restore areas affected by flooding in Kampung Rampayan, Manggatal.

UMS Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Kasim Hj Mansor said the programme was part of the university’s ongoing commitment to engaging with and supporting the local community, particularly during times of natural disasters.

“The programme saw the participation of about 300 UMS students who came forward to assist in clean-up efforts in flood-affected areas.

“It aimed to ease the burden on villagers by helping to remove flood debris and restore the environment to make it more conducive and safer for residents, including school areas and public facilities that had been inundated,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday.

According to Dr Kasim, the clean-up efforts focused on public facilities, residential surroundings and key community areas that were affected by the floods.

He also expressed his deepest appreciation to the Sepanggar Parliamentary Office for its strong support and close cooperation in ensuring the success of the programme.

“My sincere thanks to the Sepanggar Parliamentary Office for this strategic collaboration.

“Close cooperation between educational institutions and parliamentary offices is vital to ensure that assistance can be delivered more efficiently to communities in need.

“This programme has indirectly strengthened the strategic relationship between UMS and the Sepanggar parliamentary community, in line with the university’s aspiration to continue playing an active role in community development and well-being,” he added.

Also present at the programme were Sepanggar Parliamentary Office director Ashim Jamat, UMS Student Affairs Department director Azmi Jumat, and UMS Corporate Communication Centre director Dr Rizal Zamani Idris.
