KINABATANGAN: Parti Warisan has named Mazliwati Abdul Malek as its candidate for the DUN Lamag seat, while Datuk Saddi Abdu Rahman will contest the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat for the upcoming by-elections.
The party deputy president Datuk Darell Leiking said the decision was made following consultations with the Warisan Kinabatangan Division.
He said Mazliwati is a leader who understands the needs of the Lamag community.
"Her experience and capability in addressing issues related to the state administrative system are expected to enable her to become a strong and vocal representative who can effectively champion Lamag’s interests in the State Legislative Assembly.
"Meanwhile, Datuk Saddi will draw on his 12 years of experience as a State Assemblyman to use Parliament as a platform to debate Sabah’s rights at the federal level and to ensure that the voices of the people of Kinabatangan are represented firmly, with integrity and consistency," he said in a statement.
Election Commission announced both seats fell vacant following the passing of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin who helmed Sabah Barisan Nasional.
Bung, died due to lungs and kidney complications on Dec 5, which was few days after he won Lamag seat for the second term during Sabah 17th General Election.
BN named Bung's son Naim Kurniawan as Kinabatangan candidate, while 45-year-old activist Mohd Ismail Ayob, known as Miha for Lamag state seat.
Miha, who contested the Sabah GE17 as an independent, lost to Bung by 153 votes.
The nomination day will take place on Jan 10 and polling day is on Jan 24.
