KOTA KINABALU: A child witness told the court that she received an avocado-shaped keychain and several papers belonging to the late Zara Qairina Mahathir.

The recalled witness told the Coroner's Court that she received the items from another student rather than directly from Zara.

"There was a student who handed over those items to me (the child witness), but the items originally came from Zara."

However, when asked about a letter described as a 'private letter', the student could not remember who gave her the letter or when it was received," lawyer Shahlan Jafri told the media after the 57th day of the inquest concluded today.

Shahlan, who is representing Zara's mother, Noraidah Lamat, said the child witness also testified that she placed the items in a plastic bag and handed them to an ustazah.

"She had planned to take them back, but the items were later handed over to the police," he said.

Meanwhile, Datuk Ram Singh said the child witness also told the court that Zara's passing saddened her.

The inquest, which has concluded testimony from all the child witnesses, will resume on Friday with a teacher scheduled to testify. Ram, who represents one of the students charged in the alleged bullying of Zara, also said his client's mother will testify on Monday.

"On our part, we will prepare her witness statement to expedite the process," he said.
