TOUGH GOING: Seven contestants and their celebrity partners compete in triathlon to win exciting prizes

SEVEN lucky participants were paired with their chosen celebrities for Celebrity Fitness's first indoor triathlon challenge at Mid Valley Megamall here recently. The challenge required them to participate in a 27-minute workout with their celebrity partners to win some exciting prizes such as holiday packages.
The artistes were Alan Yun, Gary Yap, Ferhad, Josiah Mizukami, Nadia Heng, Sazzy Falak and Aishah Sinclair.

The triathlon consisted of indoor striding for five minutes, finishing an endurance course in 15 minutes and seven minutes of stationary cycling.

The endurance course saw the participants doing lunges, burpees and squats.

Celebrity Fitness district fitness manager Azmi Sadaka Dullah said  the striding and cycling tests were set at medium difficulty.

"The team scoring the furthest distance for striding and cycling, as well as most repetitions on the endurance test would win the challenge," he added.

Josiah and Liew Kah Sing challenged each other as their strategy was to better the scores.

"I have to admit that Josiah was 'super-fast' during the striding and cycling that I found it hard to catch up with his pace," Liew said.

Before the competition, Liew looked up Josiah on Google  and decided that he was the fittest artiste to pair up with.

Lau Sai Yew, on the other hand, knew Yap would not give up easily.

"I think his determination may help him overcome the obstacles in this challenge," he said.

However, Yap said it was his first time doing such an "extreme" sport.

"I am glad that I did 1.74km in seven minutes, which is 0.04 km further than Lau's," he added.

Despite being "tortured" with the challenges, Yap said he was reminded to put on a smile and stay "stylish"  for the cameras.

The tallest participant  Yun, 34, said his 183cm height put him in a disadvantage.

"Petite people like Sazzy  could do better with burpee, lunges and squats," he said adding that Sazzy had lighter body weight.

Yun said since he only slept four-and-a-half hours the night before, he could not perform well at the competition.

"The reason that I joined this competition was to win Monster i-sport headphones."

Retired professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Yusof joined the competition to prove that age was just a number.

"Although I am 73, I am not worried about injuring myself in this triathlon. By exercising and eating a balanced diet, I have kept myself healthy up to this age," he said.

His partner Aishah Sinclair was impressed with Khairuddin's performance as he  did better than her.

"Youngsters nowadays should not take exercise for granted as it will affect their health later in life," she said.

Heng, 27, was in earphones to sustain the challenge.

"I sung along to the songs on my iPod throughout the challenge to distract my thoughts on how difficult the challenges were," she said.

Celebrity Fitness Malaysia managing director Kwangho Choi said the event was to advocate the message that exercise was a fun activity.

The grand prize winner Ferhad and partner Foo Chee Shoen each walked away with a two-day one-night stay for two at Golden Palm Tree Iconic Resort & Spa, a Monster i-sport headphone, a Timberland timepiece and Adidas merchandise.

Ferhad also took home 12 personal training sessions while Foo received six months membership at Celebrity Fitness.

Sazzy and Khairul Anuar emerged as the first runners-up, while Heng and Lim Yee Vonne were the second runners-up.

Both teams bagged Monster i-sport headphones, a Timberland timepiece and Adidas merchandise each for the duo.

Khairul Anuar took home a three-month membership and three golf simulator sessions while Lim won a three-month membership at Celebrity Fitness.

Sazzy and Heng were given six personal training sessions.

Others took home Adidas merchandise and a month's free membership.
