COMMUNITY ACTIVITY:Participants in a leadership programme took 27 orphans on a fun day out
THE children and adults who were meeting for the first time at Taman Metropolitan Kepong painted each other' faces.
The WOW carnival day was organised by the adults, who were taking part in a leadership programme.
Under the AsiaWorks Training Sdn Bhd programme, participants were required to engage in community activity.
AsiaWorks managing director Matt Voo said the participants' goals for undergoing the training were to improve their personal relationships and careers.
"Besides improving participants' interpersonal relationships, this activity also benefits the underprivileged members of society," Voo said.
The organiser had arranged for a bus to pick up the 27 orphans of Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram in Jinjang Utara. They were treated to a breakfast of nasi lemak.
The sky was gloomy but the children's eyes lit up when they saw a clown and the "superheroes".
"Superman" Kok Fai and "Superwoman" Sophie also enjoyed nasi lemak and had fun with the kids.
Later, Snowball the clown entertained the children with his balloon sculptures . He also performed a plate-spinning trick.
It began to drizzle but that did not dampen the spirits of the children. While waiting for the rain to stop, musical chairs and "fashion show" games were played in the tent.
A volunteer with the home who wanted to be known only as Selva said the children were 7 to 17 years old.
"They were excited when they found out that they had something to do on a public holiday," he added.
When the rain stopped, the children and adults were divided into a few groups for the outdoor obstacle games.
They crawled under the chairs, ran and jumped.
The games encouraged teamwork as they had to guide blindfolded participants and encouraging others to draw with their feet as their hands were tied.
Yashwini, 8, said it was fun but some of the games were tiring.
"I always like to play outdoor with lot of friends," he added.
The day ended with a nasi briyani treat.
