PROUD PARENTS: Tropicana Medical Centre throws bash after 3,000 successful births

PETALING JAYA: AFTER five years of trying to conceive, 42-year-old Rozilah Mohd Tamrin and husband Narcis Pasic decided to give in vitro fertilisation (IVF) a try.
They are now proud parents of one-year-old Eli Anakin.
"Although the treatment is costly, it can never be compared with the joy of having your own child. Because of my age, some people advised us to give up and just adopt, but we refused to do that. We did some research online and found out about this alternative method and decided to give it a go," Rozilah said.
The couple was met at the Tropicana Medical Centre's (TMC) fertility centre yesterday at the celebration of its 3,000th IVF birth, with 50 of the babies conceived through the method present.
Rozilah and her husband said they were planning to conceive a second child at the centre after Hari Raya later this year.
TMC chief executive officer Erica Lam said the centre had a 55 per cent pregnancy rate, comparable with other renowned fertility centres around the world.
TMC had performed 6,063 IVF procedures to date. Each IVF costs about RM15,000 per cycle.
"The success rate is due to advanced medical technology, detailed clinical procedures, state-of-the-art infrastructure and fertility specialists," Lam said.
TMC Fertility centre head Dr Surinder Singh said most of the patients were aged 35 and above.
He said the centre also has a sperm storing facility especially for clients with special health conditions, such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
