CLEAN-UP: 228 cases received this year

KOTA KINABALU: DISCIPLINARY action has been taken against 68 policemen, including three being dismissed from the service, so far this year in Sabah.
State police commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the others were given warnings or had their emoluments suspended or reduced.
The punishments were meted out under Regulations 36 and 37 of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.
Hamza said the policemen concerned had been careless or disobedient in carrying out their duties, underperformed or committed breach of trust.
"The more severe cases include being involved in crime and drugs, or for offences under Syariah law," he told reporters at the police contingent's monthly gathering at the state police headquarters in Kepayan here, yesterday.
Hamza said 228 disciplinary cases were received so far this year, compared with 240 cases for the whole of last year.
"This shows that the police force is serious in monitoring misconduct among policemen."
However, he said the number of cases were still under control as they represented five per cent of the total number of policemen in Sabah.
