KOTA KINABALU: British-born writer Joanna Funk has published a coffee table book on music-related stories in Sabah.

The 250-page hardcover book, SabahSongs, is a compilation of excerpts from her blog, www.SabahSongs.wordpress.com, which she started in 2009.
Funk, who will move to Australia soon, said she wanted to make her articles available on platforms other than her blog, and that was why she chose to publish the book.
"The digital age is great but there is also a downside to it."
The book included viewpoints of lecturers from Universiti Malaysia Sabah and the Sabah Institute of Art, as well as professional musicians, composers, conductors and sound engineers.
There are also write-ups on the Kota Kinabalu Jazz festival and Sunset Music Fest in Kudat.
The 49-year-old author, who is married to a Sabahan, also highlighted visits of international artists to the state, including those of Polish artist Raphael Alexandre Lustchevsky, American Johny Rogers and Australian Lady Shaula.
"People will be fascinated with the book's content as it contains the words and views of the people here," she said at the book's launch here on Thursday.
Present was state Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.
Masidi praised Funk for publishing a book that would tell the world that the Sabah music industry did not lack local talent.
