PETALING JAYA: Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled recently launched its Mobile Phone Short Film Competition on Accessible Tourism at Jaya 33, here, recently.
The foundation's executive director Sia Siew Chin said the competition is to highlight the need for the elderly and the disabled to have access to tourist sites.
"Such people were often left at home and missed out on family outings because these sites are not disable-friendly or suitable for senior citizens," said Sia.
She said that hotels, public transport and shopping malls stand to gain should they take this group into consideration.
Also present was Women, Family and Community Development deputy minister Senator Datuk Heng Seai Kie.
The inaugural competition runs until Aug 31. It is open to the public except employees of the organiser and joint organiser Disabled People International Asia Pacific.
Participants can only use mobile phones for recording vidoes and uploading them onto YouTube, They must also provide the link in the registration form.
Thirty videos will be shortlisted and uploaded onto SEACAT's Facebook page for the top 10 winners to be selected.
Judging the competition are producers/directors Ben Yong, Ryan Tan Chuan Min, Aron Koh, Kannan Thiagarajan, and MyFM DJ Jack Lim.
"The creativity and objectivity of the video in showing a place's accessibility to the elderly and the disabled will be considered, rather than technical quality," said Koh.
The first three winners will win RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively, while the rest will receive RM500 each.
