THOSE who used to buy burritos from the Chill Lah stall at Hartamas Square may perhaps have wondered where to go now that the food stalls have gone.
The good news is, the owners -- a Dutch national named Marco de Booij and his Malaysian wife, Zuhaila Akmar -- have revived their Mexican food business at Dataran Sunway in Kota Damansara here.
The newly-opened restaurant, La Bamba, is named after a Mexican folk song originally from the state of Veracruz.
"We want to provide affordable Mexican fare for people from all walks of life," said Zuhaila.
Every inch of the restaurant was decorated by Zuhaila, who has provided it a homey touch complete with a mini kids' section.
Mexican food is colourful, spicy and tasty. Marco, the chef, uses local herbs and spices to make his dishes suit the Malaysian palate.
Being a start-up, the restaurant only serves basic Mexican dishes for now, so as to familiarise customers with the cuisine.
Among appetisers, Marco's recommendation is the pepper with beef or chicken stuffing mixed with cheesy Mexican rice. A bell-pepper priced at RM6.95++ is sufficient for one person.
Another recommended appetiser is the Mexican tortilla pizza, so named because a thin tortilla is used as the pizza base. The topping is colourful with corn, tomatoes, cheese and minced meat.
The portion can be shared by three persons and is priced at RM9.95++.
For RM7.95++ a bowl, you can taste the coarse texture of corns and spices within a medium-thick soup.
As for tacos and tortillas, the half-moon quesadilla wraps come in juicy choices of grilled beef, chicken, fish and vegetarian.
For those who fancy deep-fried fillings, chimichanga is the answer. Opt for tacos if you want a crispy wrapper.
Quesadilla, chimichanga and tacos all come with a side dish of Mexican rice, chilli fries, potato wedges or grilled vegetables. The set is available for RM14.95++.
Most popular of all is probably the Fajita at La Bamba, at RM23.95++. The grilled meat is served on a sizzling plate and customers have the choice of spreading the condiments -- sour cream, guacamole and homemade salsa -- on top of the corn tortilla before the meat.
End your Mexican journey with the chef's favourite dollar cakes, at RM6.95. These are tiny pancakes with moderate sweetness and a mild taste of cinnamon.
La Bamba opens daily, except Mondays, from 11am to 11pm.
