PENAMPANG:Education
plays an important role to provide quality human capital for the country to
face stiff global competition, says Plantation Industries and Commodities
Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.
"The country has been implementing
various transformation plan and innovation policy that will contribute to
people's wellbeing and development.
"But without capable human resource,
those programme will not be able to yield any positive results,"he said
adding that there are countries with limited resources but still able to
succeed due to having skilled workers.
Dompok added that education system in the
country had to undergo integrated transformation from pre-school to tertiary
level.
"The approach will enhance learning
process that based on knowledge and skill besides to instill the life-long
learning culture among community,"he added.
The minister was speaking at a community
college launching ceremony here, adding that people including grassroots in
state had never been left behind from the national's education development.
The three-storey institute, established
under Higher Education Ministry, is meant to become an educational hub for the
community people here.
Community Colleges Department Director
General Amir Md Noor said the that there would be a full-time accountancy
programme as well as several skill-based short or part-time courses to be
offered this July.
Those who aged 17 and above, including
senior citizens, are eligible to apply those courses via walk-in or online
system.
"The department will conduct surveys
among community here before they determine types of short courses to conduct.
"We will employ trainers most probably
from Polytechnic institutes from the state to be relocate here,"he added.
To date, there are 84 similar colleges in
the country and had produced more than a million graduates.
In Sabah, there are six including the
Penampang community college with another two to be set up in Kota Marudu and
Tambunan in near future.
