DPM to launch 'YaHijau' on Saturday

KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will launch the Yayasan Hijau (YaHijau) tomorrow at the Likas Sports complex here.

The foundation, organised by the Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) ministry in collaboration with Sabah State government, will be a key driver in promoting green lifestyle practices and in the development of green technology applications towards Malaysia's goal of developed nation status.
The establishment of YaHijau was announced during the tabling of Budget 2014 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak, with a launching fund of RM15 million.

Also expected to be presence are Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and his deputy Tan Sri Datuk Seri Pairin Kitingan, as well as KeTTHA minister Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili and deputy Datuk Seri DiRaja Mahdzir Khalid.
Meanwhile, about 6,000 people from schools, universities, corporate bodies and the public are expected to attend the carnival held in conjunction to the foundation launching.
The event will feature 35-booth exhibition, Zumba aerobics, drawing and colouring contests, futsal, 3R activities, concert at the complex as well as seminar at the Promenade hotel.
The carnival is planned as a series of programmes that will be expanded to other locations in the near future as a part of the ministry's efforts to extend its outreach in promoting a green lifestyle among Malaysians.
In addition, a three-day MyHIJAU Youth Camp has kickstarted since yesterday at Beringgis Beach Resort and Spa involving 70 Form 4 and 5 students.
The Youth Camp will also recruit youths as "MyHijau Catalysts" or "Rakan Hijau" to serve as youth volunteers to promote green lifestyle among those especially in secondary schools.
