KOTA KINABALU:Asean foreign ministers’ spouses, senior official and
delegates attending the Asean Foreign Ministers’ Retreat yesterday were given a
glimpse of the conservation work, culture and history of Sabah.
Accompanied by Chief Minister
Datuk Seri Musa Aman's wife Datin Seri Faridah Tussin, they were given a grand
welcome at Yayasan Sabah complete with traditional Sumazau performed by
children while the Keningau Bamboo Music band played "Sayang
Kinabalu".
The foundation’s senior group manager (Human Resources and Corporate Services) Rosmawati Lasuki briefed delegates on the main conservation work done by the foundation including conservation work in areas such as Maliau Basin, Danum Valley and Imbak Canyon.
Visitors were taken to the virtual reality theatre where they watched three-dimensional documentary on Maliau Basin.
The 15-minute film showcased the 58,840 hectares Maliau Basin and what it offers including the nature trails, ancienttrees and its magnificent waterfall.
Thai Foreign Minister General Tanasak Patimapragorn's wife Penlaksana was impressed.
"The State government has conserved it well, and I will encourage my children to come here one day.
"As for the Tun Mustapha gallery, it has an interesting history and grand layout to be shared with the public," she said in reference to the gallery which told the story of the late Tun Mustapha Harun who lead Sabah to Independence.
Penlaksana, Thailand Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Sihasak Phuangketkeow's wife Veraporn, and Foreign Affairs Ministry Secretary General Datuk Othman Hashim's wife Datin Rohayazam Kamaruzaman also visited handicrafts and batik exhibition.
The visit was held in conjunction to three-day Asean Foreign Ministers Retreat which ended yesterday.
On Tuesday while hosting dinner for delegates, Musa said the ministerial-level Asean meeting would introduce delegates to the many wonders Malaysia has to offer.
"I hope you will be able to take
some time off your busy schedules to visit our places of interest and Sabah’s
natural wonders such as, among others, the majestic Mt. Kinabalu, Maliau Basin,
also known as The Lost World and the world renowned Sipadan Island.
