PENAMPANG: Year Three pupil Ricardo Ronnie held
on tightly to his schoolbag as he walked across a suspension bridge hto SK
Putaton Inobong here at 6am yesterday.
“My bag has a broken zipper held together by
safety pins,” said Ricardo, one of 100 pupils, who walked to school via the
bridge from nearby villages.
“I hold onto it tightly as the books may fall
out of the bag and into the river if I’, not careful.”
Despite not having a new bag, he said he was
happy to return to school with his friends.
According to the state Education department,
41,414 pupils enrolled in Year One and 42, 487 in Form One this year.
State Education director Datuk Jame Alip had
said the postponement of the new school term eased teachers’ worries in
floodhit states.
About 29 per cent of 38,000 teachers in Sabah
were from other states.
“Some 2,111 teachers from Kelantan and 668
teachers from Terengganu are stationed in Sabah,” Jame said.
