KOTA KINABALU: A newly-opened Grand Illusion Gallery at Tanjung Aru near here has added another new attraction in state capital.

The gallery was set up by a local Lena Omye about ten months ago before it was recently launched by City Hall mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

Prior to her return here from New Zealand two years ago, Lena’s family especially the children loved to visit the Wanaka Puzzling World at the island country.

“It inspires me to set up a similar facility here as there not many amusement centres here,” she said, adding the gallery has been awarded the “First Grand Optical Illusion Gallery in Malaysia” by the Malaysia Book of Records.

The double-storey building appears to have wider space and taller due to illusions created with the combination of modified building structures, 3D paintings, and application of physics concept in arrangement of items.

Pregnant women, individuals with heart problems or motion sickness, and other related illness are not encouraged to visit the place due to possible complications.

There are 12 sections namely the Dark Labyrinth, Endless Chamber, Infinity Stairs, The Shrinking room, The Anti-Gravity room, Crazy Gallery and The Spinning Glow Cave among others.

A 65-year-old visitor from Penang, Chan Juin Chow, said she was amazed with things that were set up within the building.

“This is my first time seeing unusual scene in gallery although I have travelled to many countries.

“The most interesting section was at the Anti-Gravity room where I moved like astronaut, but slanted to the left or to the left,” said Chan, who came to visit her son who was working in Sabah.

The Grand Illusions opens daily from 10am to 10pm and can be contacted at 088 211391.
