KOTA KINABALU: Four Pakistanis were yesterday charged in court for possession of social visit passes with false information which they used to extend their stay in the country.

All of them were among a group of Pakistanis and Immigration officers apprehended in an operation over a visa scam launched by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission recently.

Two of them pleaded guilty for having the Multiple Entry Visas, issued by the Immigration department in Lahad Datu, which contained information about their "local wives" who were not their real spouses.
Two others pleaded not guilty to the charge framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code and were ordered to be remanded while waiting for their case management hearing fixed on March 17.
Sessions court judge Datuk Ishak Bakri sentenced Sohrab Khan Habib Khan and Sartaj Khan, both 22, to 3 months jail and fined RM10,000 each or a month jail in default.
Sohrab admitted to having the Multiple Entry Visa with the name Arnidar Pasojal who was not his wife on Sept 3 last year while Sartaj used a similar document with the name Rusilin Abu on Feb 5 this year.
Two others who pleaded not guilty were Shamsul Alam Habib Rasool, 30 and Afzal Khan Mirasan Khan, 25. Shamsul was accused of falsely having a Multiple Entry Visa with the name of Manisah Sabal as his wife on Oct 14 last year while Afzal for having the name of Sharwaty Samporang on Feb 4.
MACC presecuting officer Awang Samsul Baharam Bungso in appealing for a stiffer sentence against Sohrab and Sartaj said they were nabbed in an operation against officers from the Immigration department.
“Heavier penalty should be imposed as the use of passport with false information involved the integrity and security of the government particularly Immigration department,” Samsul said.
The MACC recently crippled a syndicate that sold social visit passes up to RM11,000 to Pakistanis in Sabah. Seven immigration officers including one with the rank of deputy assistant director.
