KOTA KINABALU: The outpouring of support for the prime minister continued yesterday with Sabah Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club pledging its support for Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Its chairman Datuk Abdul Rahim Ismail said criticism against Najib were unfair as he had the support of the majority of the people to govern the country.
"I believe Najib's leadership will strengthen BN," he said at a press conference after the opening of the 14th state assembly sitting here yesterday.
Rahim, who is also Pantai Manis assemblyman, said Najib was the best person to lead the country.
"Former leaders have contributed to the development of the country and Najib should be given the opportunity to do the same."
Meanwhile, United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun (UPKO) secretary general Datuk Donald Mojuntin said Najib also had support of the party, as he had given more attention to Sabah and Sarawak compared with past leaders.
He said the party applauded Najib's move to form the Royal Commission of Inquiry on illegal immigrants in Sabah.
"When Tun Mahathir was prime minister, upko and other Sabah-based BN component parties were persistent in asking him to resolve the illegal immigration problem here.
"However, no action was taken, apart from the formation of the Federal Special Taskforce on illegal immigrants in Sabah," he said yesterday.
Mojuntin, added that Najib, who is also BN chairman, was accessible to leaders of component parties wishing to discuss matters with him.
