Mudslide-prone Sabah schools to be relocated.

KOTA KINABALU: Several schools that are prone to mudslides in Kota Belud will be relocated to safer places, said State Education director Datuk Jame Alip.

“The Education ministry has approved relocating SK Kiau. Meanwhile, the study on relocating of SK Kaung and SK Melangkap is ongoing,” he said, adding that findings indicated that these schools were on land that was prone to mudslides.

He was speaking after China Consul-General in Sabah Chen Pei Jie handed laptops worth RM50,000 to 27 schools affected by the earthquake.

Kota Belud was hit by mudslide several times last month. The incidents occurred due to loosened earth following the earthquake measuring at 5.9 Richter scale on June 5.

Chen said the China government wanted to help victims, especially children, who were affected by the earthquake.

“We believe children and education should never suffer from indigence. We hope the assistance helps the schools and children.”

The Chinese Consulate will distribute 500 Chinese books on how to survive during an earthquake to people of Sabah.

On another matter, the state education pinning hopes that the China government to provide consultation to the development of state Sports school in Sepanggar.
