KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Archives Department is organising a three-day exhibition of important documents depicting the development of the state since British colonial times.

The annual programme held at Kota Kinabalu community centre, which started yesterday, is organised in conjunction to Malaysia Day.

It provides interesting fact and pictures since the British colonial era up to the state gaining independence.

The department also shared newspaper cutting and sources pertaining to significant history in several districts.

They included massacre of locals in Semporna by pirates in 1954, tropical storm Greg in 1996 claimed hundreds of lives in Keningau and stories of first mountain guide and woman who reached the peak of Mount Kinabalu in Ranau.

There was also a corner dedicated to the portfolios of past and present Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Chief Ministers of Sabah.

Present to launch the exhibition was State Tourism, Culture and Environment minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.

“This exhibition is a platform for the young to learn about the journey of gaining independence from British colonisation. It is also a good opportunity for the public to take time-off from busy schedule to see, evaluate and appreciate the evolution of the state,” he said.
