KOTA KINABALU: The New Straits Times Press bagged seven awards and 19 merit prizes in the Kinabalu Shell Press Award here.
New Straits Times bureau chief Roy Goh won Business and Economic award for his article "Progress Threatening KK's charm" and "A race like no other" for Sports Journalism awards.
Roy's "Lahad Datu no backing down" and Olivia Miwil's "Meeting the needs of the elderly" entitled them for a merit prize each for Journalism award.
Olivia also get merit prizes for Sports Journalism for "Ride the waves at the tip of Borneo", "Poaching of sea turtles rampant" for Environmental as well as " Sabah a seafood paradise" for Business and Economic Reporting categories.
Kristy Inus from same publication, who submitted "Women in conservation" entry also entitled for a merit prize for the Environmental category.
Berita Harian (BH) reporter Suzianah Jiffar bagged two awards for her article "Kemusnahan Hutan Punca Suhu Di Kaki Gunung Kinabalu Meningkat" for Environmental and "Kuih Raya Dari Penjara" for Business and Economics categories.
Poliana Sidom won merit prizes for Environmental, Entertainment and News Reporting categories.
BH reporter Thaddius Unip won merit prize for Economic category and stringer Nazlie Zainul get same prize for Entertainment category.
Harian Metro reporter Junaidi Ladjana won news reporting.
Photographer Malai Rosmah Tuah won merit prizes for Environment and Best Picture awards meanwhile Izhari Ariffin awarded similar prizes for Environment, Best News Photograph and Sports categories.
Ruslan Lusi won awards for Best Photograph (The Nomads of the Sulawesi Sea) for New Straits Times and News reporting (Madu Toluto Kampung Potoridung) for Berita Harian for stringers categories.
Both stringers Mohd Adam Eussoffefuddin and Erdihazzuan Ab Wahid won merit prizes for Best Photograph category.
Present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, Shell Malaysia chairman Datuk Iain Lo and Sabah Journalists Association president Francis Fahir.
There are 256 entries submitted for Kinabalu Shell Press Award 2014.
A tribute song "Malim yang kecundang" (Fallen mountain guides) by Felix Samunting was also dedicated to four mountain guides and 14 climbers who died during the June 5 earthquake measuring on 5.9 Richter scale.
