Heritage Hotel Cameron Highlands has plenty of in-house activities for all ages, writes Olivia Miwil

What do you do when it rains?Stay indoor nothing? At Heritage Hotel, a tudor-style hotel outfit located 1,800m above sea level in Cameron Highlands, the fun continues even when it rains, especially for kids.

In line with its image as one of the country's top destinations for a family holiday, the hotel organises activities for all age groups on the ground floor.

It has a playroom where young children can play with slides or watch cartoon programmes. The room is furnished with carpets and has an attached washroom with with a toilet and changing room.

Opposite to the playroom is a well-lit mini library but on the selves are mainly Japanese books and very few of English books. Daily newspaper can be obtained from lobby which is near the reading room.

There are also play areas adjacent to both facilities. Older children can play snooker, arcade and board games. At the board games room, the wall is decorated with historical photograph depicting the development of Cameron highlands.

Nature lovers will enjoy a mini landscaped garden with a man-made pond within the vicinity on which patrons could also feed the school of fish.

The Heritage Hotel, ideally situated on a hill in the town of Tanah Rata, has 238 rooms and suites. The superior room has an attached private balcony with panoramic view of Tanah Rata though it is usually blanketed with mist.  The room has a full range of amenities. Unfortunately, there is no Wi-Fi coverage around the room. For internet surfing, it has to be done at the hotel lobby.

The hotel also provides in-house self-service laundry at RM8 per maximum of six kilogramme wash load.  There are ironing stations placed in the laundry room at the ground floor and along the corridor in room areas.

As we paid our stay via second party online booking site, which had cheaper rate but did not include breakfast buffet.  But there is in-room meal service, or patrons could dine at its food and beverages outlets such as Rainforest Coffee house, Jasmine garden restaurant, vintage bar and vintage tea lounge, as well as heritage grill and BBQ.

However, we chose to go eateries which located about five-minute walk from the hotel. We get to taste different foods such as freshly brewed local tea and oat porridge topped with local fruits for western meal to warm tandoori chicken with naan bread and the-tarik for Asian breakfast.

During our morning stroll to breakfast, there are also other patrons and apartments residents who do the same thing.  It leaves good impression on the safety of the neighborhood as even at night time, people are still walk or ride bicycles around the place.

The hotel has two levels of ample parking of which patrons could opt to park on the basement should it rain. The basement parking is also connected to the lobby.

The tour desk services at the lobby offer almost similar rate as compared to others in the town.
