KOTA KINABALU: Resolving the long standing issue on immigrants in Sabah will need to help of everyone, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said.

He yesterday lamented however there are still people who hire illegal immigrants despite knowing its an offence to harbour them and this hinders efforts to rid them off the state.

Endless bickering on the issue would also not help find a solution to the problem, said Pairin who is also Infrastructure Development minister.

These were among many factors that delays efforts in dealing with the issue said Pairin who chairs the Technical Committee on Foreign Migrant Management formed after the completion of the Royal Commission of Inquiry on Immigrants in Sabah in 2014.

He said this when met here where he presented RM120,000 cash aid from Affin Holdings Berhad to 600 needy pupils from the Putatan, Keningau and Ranau Parliamentary constituencies.

Several key leaders from Barisan Nasional component parties had questioned the progress on implementation of recommendations made in the inquiry.

On a suggestion by opposition Sabah Progressive Party to dissolve the committee, Pairin said it was not necessary.

"I understand many people have ideas and inspirations. Anyone can criticise but they should also provide suggestions to look for best solutions.

“All parties should work together instead of bashing each other to achieve the common objectives in tackling issues related to illegal immigrants.

"The committee is still in the process of cmpiling and finalising suggestions from all including those made by opposition parties," he said.

Also present in the ceremony were AFFIN chairman General (R) Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin, Ranau MP Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin and Putatan MP Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh.
