RANAU: Few Johor people here had recently organised a climb to peak of Mount Kinabalu to pay tribute to late Tunku Abdul Jalil Iskandar Ibrahim Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

Tunku Jalil, the fourth child of Sultan, died due to cancer at the age of 25 on Dec 5.

One of them who wants to be known as Zetty said the personal project was initiated among the group to also spread love as what the Johor Sultan had also for the people of Sabah.

“The Sultan of Johor is a very kind and thoughtful and had held special hajat prayers in Johor and donated for the victims of Sabah earthquake.

“We thought it would be great to honour (his son) Tunku Jalil with this climb,” she said, adding the project gained great support from the State Tourism, Culture and Environment ministry.

The group collaborated with Sabah Parks to get assistance from mountain guides and rangers to accomplish the mission last week.

Zetty added the climb was special as it was led by senior park ranger Martin Moguring who had rescued victims on Mount Kinabalu during the June 5 earthquake.

Seventeen climbers wore t-shirt printed with “Fight Like Jalil” wording and brought the Johor flag on top of the mountain.

Meanwhile, Martin said it was an honour to be trusted to fulfil the task.

“We were lucky to be able to reach the peak as it was running heavily in the morning”.
