KOTA KINABALU: Private preschool operators should value-add their services if they plan to raise the fees.

Sabah Preschool Association vice president Zubaidah Sidek yesterday said this could justify the increase and serve as consolation to parents

"The rise in costs to run preschools appears inevitable with the decision to increase the minimum salary requirement," she said.

Next year the miminum wage would be increased from RM800 to RM920 and this would further burden the operators as it would push up operating costs.

No complaints were received though from any parents since the National 2016 Budget when the minimum wage was discussed.

As an initiative the association has reached out to private preschool operators in Sabah to reconsider the move,Zubaidah said.

"This is where we told them to improve their services," she said adding the fees may be increase between RM20 to RM50.

As for Aidiezal Awang, he has no qualms about paying extra to enrol her daughter Arianna in a private kindergarten because of the quality of service provided.

The 36-year-old auditor said he paid RM2,000 to enrol his daughter and will be paying RM200 monthly next year.

"Its worth the location of the establishment near my workplace and the quality of their service based on feedback I get from friends who send their children here," he said.

Another parent Syra Leo, 44, said despite the rise in costs of living there would be no compromise for her when it comes to provide proper education for her six schooling children.

"My youngest child has learnt a lot since she started here this year especially in English and Mandarin," she said of her five-year-old daughter Ferra Febian.

"I would save up on other things due to the higher costs of living but not education."
