PENAMPANG: THE parents of an 8-year-old boy, who suffered a deep head wound after being struck by a chair thrown by his teacher, want to transfer their son to another primary school.

The boy's mother, who wanted to be known only as Wawa, said she would look for another shcool even though the authorities promised to take action against the teacher.

This came after the teacher, who was teaching a Year Two class at a school here on Friday morning, threw a wooden chair at another pupil was said to be creating a nuisance.

However, the chair struck Wawa's son, who suffered a big gash on his head that required eight stitches.

Following the incident, Wawa's husband, who is also a teacher at the school, rushed their son to Queen Elizabeth hospital in Kota Kinabalu for treatment.

"My son is experiencing some pain but he is recovering and does not show any sign of depression.

"He is also not reluctant to go to school," said Wawa.

The mother said she had lodged a police report at Kinarut police station in Papar although she and her husband had no intention to take legal action against the teacher.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Rosley Hobden said the police would investigate the case.

It was learned that Sabah education director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul had met the teacher and issued an apology to the boy's parents.

Maimunah was quoted as saying yesterday that teachers were strictly not allowed to throw any objects, even a "piece of chalk' at their students.

The teacher has been instructed to stop teaching for the time being, and has been assigned to desk duties at the district education office.

Meanwhile, netizens were incensed after reading about the incident, which has gobe viral on social media.

They said teachers should control their temper while dealing with naughty children.

Azman Jumat, in a Facebook posting yesterday, said teachers were responsible for guiding their wards and should refrain from resorting to violence.
