Visitors of Likas bay recreational park in
Sabah are hoping authorities could beef up security following recent news of
robbery and molestation cases at the public area.
Two women, who came for jogging on weekday
early morning, had been molested and one of their handphones was taken by three
strangers.
Bhil Philip, 36, said it was a shame that
people could not come to such good
facility for fearing their safety.
“The park has great view and well maintained,
but I stopped going there when people told me about the incident.”
Another jogger Stephen Yong, 27, also shared
the same sentiment that the place is dangerous even for man.
“We do not know what kind of people with
ill-intention are going to do to visitors here.
“Unless there are something that reduce the
crime opportunity risk, it is better not to take risk endanger my life going to
the park.”
Action line:
Kota Kinabalu district police chief Assistant
Commissioner M. Chandra said police had arrested the three suspects allegedly
involved in robbing and molesting two local women.
“Police and City Hall enforcement personnel
are collaborating in patrolling the areas around the clock.
“We will also inspect visitors at the park,”
he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK)’s Public
Relations and Complaints Department director Syron A. Tunggolou said the
authority would provide five bicycles to the police for the patrolling
purposes.
The patrolling, which consists of two personnel respectively
from police and City Hall, will be conducted in three shifts- 7am to 3pm;
3pm-11pm; 11pm to 7am.
“In near future, the closed-circuit television will be
improved and the City Hall will look into the need to add more street lights at
the park.”
