BEIJING: China government is fostering further cooperation with media from other countries to better understand its One Belt One Road initiative (BRI).

Communist party of China central committee, International Department, Foreign Affairs coordination bureau director general You Jianhua said the government of China looked forward to building partnerships and benefit from the globalisation.

"Understanding (the global) hot topic on BRI is one of the three keys to understand China. During the recently concluded BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit, President Xi Jin Ping had said the planning of BRI had progressed into the implementation phase," he said during the welcoming reception of 2017 Media Programme for B&R Countries here.

You said the other two keys to better understand China were on the governing Communist Party of China and cooperation between media in China and Asian countries.

The programme, organised by Tsinghua University and People's Daily, saw 25 media personnel from 15 countries. It ends on Sept. 22.

The participants will be offered systematic interpretation to the BRI through in-class teaching and other forms of activities.

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had said the ‘One Belt One Road Initiative’ would benefit Malaysia in terms of infrastructure, connectivity, social facilities, better living standards and business opportunities.

In May, Malaysian and Chinese companies had signed nine memorandum of understanding and agreements during the Belt and Road Forum here.

Among the major projects under the initiative is the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park in Pahang, Melaka Gateway, East Coast Rail Link and Xiamen University Malaysia.

These agreements were mostly trade based with a total value of RM31.26 billion.
