BEIJING: China has pledged to address the problem of pollution in the country via an aggressive and large-scale manner through quality development.

The people republic's state council vice premier Zhang Gaoli said it had implemented a lot resolve pollution related to soil, water and air.

"Concrete work under several policies, saw reduction of 30 per cent on air pollution.

"However, there is difficulty in tackling pollution during the winter season," he said during a meeting with more than 300 international media delegates of 2017 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and
Road of the at the Great Hall of People here yesterday.

Zhang added national budget being allocated and top-notch scientists would be engaged in solving the pollution issue.

"In future, we hope people can enjoy blue sky, cleaner water and safer food," he said, adding the similar forum would likely to be held in Hainan province next year.

The forum was held to recognise the importance played by the media in disseminating and exchanging information related to One Belt and One Road initiative proposed in 2013.

Between 2014 and 2016, China's trade volume through the initiative had reached more than 3 trillion US dollars.

Zhang added China believed that protectionism would hamper development and the way forward is for countries to cooperate and being open.

Other issues raised during his one-hour meeting also included China's commitment in promoting innovation in science and technology, elevating industrial cooperation, as well as improving quality of human resources.
