In a span of two decades, a local diver here has created several hundred of maps of Malaysia's most beautiful dive sites.
Glen Hapirulla, 54, started sketching the maps since 1997 when he was working at Tioman island in Pahang.
"I was a dive master at the time and I realised that I had to do the mapping of all the dive sites there.
"It became a habit and I continued sketching until today," said the diving instructor, who worked at various islands in peninsular Malaysia before returning here to his hometown to open a dive centre.
Glen said this when met during the state Tourism and Culture Ministry's End in Sipadan: Silam exploration" campaign here, recently.
The "End in Sipadan" campaign, which began earlier this year, was to promote dive trails in the state and transform Sipadan in Semporna into one of the top five diving destinations in the world.
Glen said he relies on memory and regular diving to conduct his mapping of underwater locations, adding that he does not require formal training or special equipment.
The sketches and maps, he said, would be useful for dive masters , would be useful for dive masters who wanted to guide novice divers at the sites.
