RM1 shuttle bus service to Queen Elizabeth hospital

KOTA KINABALU: A SHUTTLE bus that charges RM1 per ride was launched for the public to get to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here.
Queen Elizabeth Hospital director Dr Heric Corray said the initiative was aimed at reducing congestion and parking issues at the hospital.
“There are 900 parking spaces and we have about 4,000 staff working on shifts.
“There are an average of 1,000 patients and about 2,000 visitors who come to the hospital daily,” he said.
City Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai launched the service here recently after declaring the hospital a litter-free hospital.
The hospital started the shuttle service on a small scale in July last year.
There will be two buses providing hourly-services from KK Sentral as early as 6am, until 8pm. The route will pass through Harbour City, Grace Court, Sembulan, the State Mosque, Lands and Survey Department, Public Works Department, Imago shopping complex, Sutera Harbour, SRJK Chung Hwa, Wisma Budaya, Karamunsing shopping complex, Wawasan Plaza and the Urban Transformation Centre.
Coray said the shuttle bus services, which were run by a private company, were to ensure more reliable and regular trips between the two points.
“There is no point of adding more car parks as it will never be enough. By improving public transport, it can help people to reach the hospital and other public areas,” he said.
Besides the shuttle service, the hospital also extended the operating hours for its pharmacy until night, and lab services during weekends.
