KENINGAU: A change will begin after 14th General Election regardless of who will be the government, said Parti Solidariti Tanahairku (Star) president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

He added 14th general election is definitely will be different from the last election as contesting parties share similar political ideology.

“As we can see it for this time, whether political parties and leaders are in the government or otherwise, they have agreed to fight for the rights of people of Sabah.

“I am proud (with this solidarity) as my struggle of fighting for the rights for so long and finally get the support from everyone,” he said.

Jeffrey, who also founded United Borneo Alliance in 2011 to fight for Sabah rights, was referring to manifestos unveiled by Barisan Nasional, Warisan and local opposition parties which had pledged to reinstate people’s rights as enshrined in Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

The incumbent Bingkor assemblyman has won the state seat last election on the Sabah rights platform.

However, the 69-year-old politician will be contesting for Tambunan state seat and Keningau parliamentary seat.

Jeffrey’s elder brother Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan is also defending the Tambunan seat which he has held since 1976.

“After this 14th general election, whoever is in the government, the efforts to reinstate state’s right is just another step to take as everyone has agreed to fight for it.

“Whatever it is, there will always be challenges, clashes, chaos  (towards the goal of reinstatement of state’s rights) but it will eventually bring us to a higher level which is a new beginning,” he said.
