KOTA KINABALU: Domino’s Pizza broke the sales record at its first store in Sabah during the opening week of a new store in the Asia Pacific this year.
“On top of that, we also broke Malaysia’s record for best opening week in the past 20 years (since Domino’s began operations in the country),” said Domino’s Malaysia and Singapore chief executive officer Ba U Shan-Ting at the grand opening of Domino’s third store in Sabah at Riverson here.
“The sales that week amounted to six figures in Ringgit Malaysia, which is more than 10,000 pizzas.”
The first store at Bundusan, near here, opened on Malaysia Day, while the second is located in Inanam.
Ba also announced that the company would open another two stores in Sulaman, here, and at the International Technology and Commercial Centre in Penampang by year’s end before penetrating the Sarawak market in 2020.
Ba said it was in line with the brand’s target to hit 300 stores by 2020, adding that were 227 stores nationwide.
Domino’s Pizza Malaysia is ranked the 15th largest market in the world and the fifth largest in Asia Pacific in terms of the number of stores.
He said, despite the additional logistics cost, Domino’s was able to maintain profits with a high volume of consumers by standardising the prices of pizza in Sabah with Peninsular Malaysia.
Domino’s Pizza Malaysia and Singapore executive chairman Datuk George Ting said the fact that there were Sabahans working for Domino’s in the peninsula made it easier to jumpstart operations in the state.
Also present was Domino’s Pizza International Asia Pacific Region vice- president Steve Pizziol.
