KOTA KINABALU: Sabah government is committed to have more property development in the state to boost economic growth especially via tourism sector.
State Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said Sabah had achieved more than 3 million tourist arrivals which indicated that there are needs to provide adequate facilities to accommodate the huge number of visitors.
“There are places in Sabah that could not cope with the arrivals of tourists, thus the state has to use chartered flights to plan for their stays here.
“Otherwise if they come at the same time, the market will not be able to provide necessary facilities for tourists not only from China, but also locally and Europe,” he said, adding Sabah has become a destination that offers well-taken care of forests and sea.
Mohd Shafie was speaking after the ground-breaking ceremony of KK City Resort project in Lok Kawi, which is about 15 kilometres from the state capital.
KK Resort City will be a large-scale fully-integrated tourism, business and residential living township that offer various facilities including hotel accommodation, resorts, shopping, dining, social and other community activities.
He said the RM5 billion project, which is expected to be completed within 4 years, would have the development plan approved within a month as it has huge and significant spillover to state economy.
As for the development project in Tanjung Aru, he added the state government would continue and discuss with stakeholders for the same purpose to complement tourism activities in the state.
“The state government also encourages developers to increase their efforts as it would provide jobs opportunity for locals and business opportunity in Kota Kinabalu and Papar.
“We want investments and we cannot rely solely on state or federal government, private sectors have to play their roles,” he added.
Present were state Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew and Sunduvon Corporation Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Henry Lau.
