KOTA KINABALU: Singapore and Sabah are looking at boosting existing links by collaborating in various areas.
The republic’s Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Chee Hong Tat said Sabah has been an important partner for Singapore over the years.
“I am confident that we can take our existing partnership to the next level, in areas such as education, increased interaction between young people, and further exploration of tourism potentials”.
He said the republic was also keen on cruise tourism and investing in developing tourism hospitality facilities.
Chee is hopeful that Sabah will set up a trade and tourism promotion office in Singapore and the republic will in turn help Sabah to export its products.
He said this after paying a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal at the state Administrative Building Centre here.
Shafie said collaboration between Sabah and Singapore would be mutually beneficial to both parties.
Meanwhile, on Indonesia’s move to re-locate its capital to East Kalimantan, Shafie said the move would also benefit Sabah economically.
“The area has many resources such as coal and oil. It will definitely contribute to Malaysia’s economy,” he said.
