KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) has apologised to a local artist who claimed his design was plagiarised by the local authority and used at public premises.
DBKK director-general Noorliza Awang Alip said the apology was extended to Crig Francis, following a discussion between both parties here yesterday, which was also attended by Sabah Art Gallery curator Jennifer Linggi.
"The officer in charge of coordinating mural paintings at Padang Merdeka admitted it was an unintentional technical mistake.
"As emphasised by the mayor (Datuk Nordin Siman), DBKK will always continue to respect and recognise artworks by all artists in the city and stands against plagiarism," she said in a statement.
Noorliza added that the local authority would also introduce new standard operating procedures to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future.
"DBKK hopes that this explanation can answer questions from the Kota Kinabalu community as the issue has been viralled."
