KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah and Sarawak state governments have agreed to shorten the operation hours at their common borders.
Sabah state secretary Datuk Safar Untong said the measure was to curb the spread of Covid-19.
"The Custom Immigration Quarantine and Security (CIQS) Sindumin-Merapok at borders of both states would only operate between 6am and 8pm starting today.
“It is in line with the agreement made between secretaries of Sabah and Sarawak,” he said in a statement here today.
Previously, the CIQS was operating between 6am and midnight.
Also, from today the frequency of the railway service in the state will be reduced.
The KK-Beaufort and Halogilat – Rayoh service will cease temporarily; While there will be two return trips for Beaufort-Halogilat and Rayoh-Tenom services.
The Sabah government has also roped in all village chiefs, village community management council chairmen and other community leaders to assist in ensuring the community under them comply with the MCO.
As for the homeless people, they will be placed temporarily at designated centres.
Meanwhile, Safar said processing factories and logistics services related to domestic food supply were allowed to operate during the MCO period.
