KOTA KINABALU: Continuous supply of test kits will help the state obtain more accurate data to evaluate the Covid-19 situation here.
State Health and People’s Wellbeing minister Datuk Frankie Poon said besides personal protective equipment, the medical fraternity is in dire need of test kits.
On behalf of the state government, he hoped more donations especially test kits would be coming in for the laboratories.
“We need to have a consistent supply of kits for more accurate figures that will reflect the real situation.
“If the statistics are inaccurate, we cannot put necessary measures in place to handle the situation.
“It is also important to make the fact known so everyone will cooperate. The earlier the movement control order is lifted, the better it is for everyone,” he said after the handing over of face masks from the Ma Zhong Friendship Association Sabah to the state.
Present were Sabah Health director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi, Kota Kinabalu China Consulate General Liang Caide and the association's president Dr Oh Ei Sun.
Meanwhile, Oh said the association has been helping the Sabah government procure donations of medical protective equipment from China, but is expecting delays due to limited air services to transport them here.
"The first batch of masks, worth RM100,000 will be transferred to the Sabah ministry of health for distribution to frontliners and others most in need.
“We are thankful to our vice president Datuk Tan Kar Leong for assisting in delivering the donations by air.
“We will continue to work hard to procure more equipment from China but due to the drastic decrease in direct flights between Sabah and China, there will be delays.”
