KOTA KINABALU: Companies in the manufacturing and industrial sectors should appoint a coordinator to ensure compliance of standard operating procedures (SOP) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
State Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said the coordinator can be appointed among officers at the company.
"We want the monitoring to be held more frequently to ensure efforts to curb the Covid-19 pandemic are done thoroughly.
"As there are limited enforcement officers (to do the checking), having internal staff to conduct these operations can be fully enforced," he said in a statement.
Madius, who is also a deputy Chief Minister, said that these companies were important in generating income for the state and for staff to support their families.
He added those who failed to observe the SOPs would be punished and ordered to stop operating.
Among the SOPs that have to be obeyed include inspecting and recording the body temperature of their staff everyday besides ensuring everyone wears a face mask.
"There should be a rotational basis on workers' attendance and for those who are present to maintain social distancing and personal hygiene.
"Companies are also told to prepare sanitising liquid for their staff and frequently disinfect the premises."
Madius said a company would have to temporarily close its operations should any of its workers test positive for Covid-19.
