KOTA KINABALU: Twelve tertiary students here have tested positive for Covid-19 to date, said Sabah Health Department (JKNS) director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi.
"Throughout the Covid-19 outbreak, JKNS has conducted targeted screenings among students stranded at 36 institutions in Sabah.
"Out of 5,266 samples taken from (students at local institutions), three were positive; while nine positive cases were recorded among students who returned from Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak," she said in a statement today.
As of yesterday, JKNS recorded a total 346 cases, with one new case each in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.
The latest case here is a man who returned from Miri, Sarawak, whose sample was taken upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
As for the Tawau case, Dr Christina said the man is categorised as a local transmission, as he was detected during targeted screenings.
"Both of them have been admitted to specialist hospitals in their own respective districts.
"District health offices are actively tracing contacts for the two cases," she added.
As of May 28, a total of 1,612 people are still being quarantined at 52 centres in the state, while 6,794 people are under home quarantine.
Although there are no reports of anyone flouting their quarantine order, Dr Christina reminded those in isolation to abide by the requirement.
