RANAU: Climbers, guides and porters were taken by surprise and stopped in their tracks when Yohan Charles Jayasuria began climbing Mount Kinabalu.
The 39-year-old cosplayer, who donned a three-kilogramme "Iron Man" costume, hiked through a 6.7 kilometre trail from Timpohon Gate to Panar Laban in the rain, yesterday.
"It took about six and a half hours to reach Laban Rata (Panar Laban) before continuing to the peak at around 2.30am.
"We were also told to document the adventure by taking pictures and videos of the journey," he told the New Straits Times, in an attempt to enter the Guinness World Records by wearing a superhero costume throughout his trek.
However, due to bad weather, Yohan and his entourage were not able to reach the peak this morning.
The quest, dubbed "Iron Man",' is to raise funds for mountain guides, and is the brainchild of veterinarian Dr Randolf Paza.
It was supposed to be conducted at the end of last month, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
Randolph said the donations they have received so far were handed over on Friday to a representative of mountain guides affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Apart from Iron Man, several social media sites were abuzz with photos of climbers dressed as dinosaurs on the peak, yesterday morning.
