SANDAKAN: Sabah MCA has expressed its skepticism over Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's intention in nominating a Sabahan as Pakatan Harapan's prime ministerial candidate.
State MCA treasurer Datuk Chin Kim Hiung questioned whether such a pledge would actually be honoured or whether it was nothing more than a ploy to seek support from Sabah and Sarawak members of parliament to block PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from being nominated for the post.
"His latest move appears to have an ulterior motive. When he was the seventh prime minister of Malaysia, his promises to Sabah remained unfulfilled.
"With these promises remaining mere promises, he has come up with another one, this time to nominate a Sabahan as the PM candidate.
"Without a party, Dr Mahathir's decision does not carry any weight as his announcement was done unilaterally without any consultation with his Pakatan Harapan Plus allies," he said in a statement.
Chin said that the Pakatan Harapan had also given the people of Sabah false hopes with promises of an increase in the oil royalty to 20 per cent as well as issues pertaining to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 prior to the 14th general election.
Chin also questioned the silence by DAP leaders after the latter was left out of any deputy prime minister roles, despite being the largest partner in PH Plus with 42 members of parliament.
"They should request for the creation of an additional deputy prime minister post for one of their leaders so that they can champion the interests of the Malaysian Chinese community which the party claimed it has been doing all along."
