KOTA KINABALU: The federal government is committed to assist industry players in Sabah to kickstart their businesses and stimulate the country's economy.
Senior International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the country's economy is on the right track and could achieve its recovery targets starting next year.
"The World Bank has reported an economic slump this year, but if we restart economic activities, the International Monetary Fund has stated that Malaysia will be among the earliest countries to record positive growth of between 6.3 and 7.5 per cent.
"That is why we need economic sectors to kickstart their activities so the country's economy can be restored." he said after meeting with the Small and Medium Enterprises and micro business owners here.
Azmin said though the Federal government has allocated several economic stimulus packages and initiatives to assist affected industries especially on cash flow, his working visit today was to understand other challenges businessmen faced.
The ministry had also made the same working visits to Johor and Melaka last month.
"Today, representatives from sectors such as food and beverages, livestock, services and automotive took part in the discussion.
"The ministry together with agencies such as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) and Sirim Berhad were among those who gave their feedback on how best to restart the economy in Sabah," he said.
