Musa Aman says no need for state assembly dissolution, snap polls [NSTTV]

KOTA KINABALU: Tan Sri Musa Aman has urged the head of state, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, to reconsider his decision to allow the dissolution of the state Legislative Assembly.

The former Chief Minister said it is unnecessary to hold snap polls as he has the simple majority of 33 assemblymen out of 65 state seats.

"This morning, statutory declaration documents from 33 assemblymen who pledged their support to me as the Chief Minister were submitted to Tun (Juhar) through lawyers.

"Under the Constitution, I am eligible to be appointed as the new Chief Minister.

"Therefore, we hope that Tun will give consideration to us with a simple majority to form the new government," he said during a press conference at his residence here.

Present were assemblymen that had pledged their support towards him.

Musa, who served as Chief Minister for 15 years, described today's dissolution as "the second betrayal", with the first being in 2018 when he was sworn in as the Chief Minister before being "fired".

The Sungai Sibuga assemblyman added that while the new coalition of Umno-PPBM-PBS-independent and defectors of Upko and Warisan are ready for any possible snap election, it is unnecessary.

Among those who crossed over include Upko's Paginatan assemblyman Datuk Abidin Madingkir, PKR's Inanam Kenny Chua, DAP's nominated assemblyman Ronnie Loh and more than 10 Warisan assemblymen.

The coalition also has the support of nine PPBM, three Star and four PBS assemblymen.

Musa is the sole Umno elected representative.

"There are three more years before the next general election … is the assembly dissolution for the people or personal gain? Why waste time?

"Do not burden the people. Furthermore, there is also Covid-19, which threatens the health of the public."

Musa also said that those who had fought along with him before and defected from the Warisan-led government were not rewarded with any form of inducement.

"They returned to me as the Warisan-led government is no longer in line with the federal government, which makes it difficult to govern the state.

"(They simply want) to form a new government that could bring development," he added.
