KOTA KINABALU: Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman's entourage was denied entry into Istana Negeri Sabah as they sought an audience to obtain clarification on the status of their statutory declarations.
Tambunan assemblyman Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan, whose vehicle was among the 33 assemblymen's cars which were blocked at the roundabout heading to the Istana, said they had gone to see the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin as there was no reply to their letters.
"We submitted the letter stating that we have adequate 33 assemblymen out of 65 to form the (state) government, which means that we can form the government.
"But there was no reply and now we are not allowed to enter the state palace," he told reporters at the roadside.
Jeffrey said it was absurd that they were denied as they had informed the palace and representatives from the Prime Minister's office, and Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin had also met with Juhar to inform them about the new coalition.
Earlier, Musa had at a press conference said that the new coalition would appeal for Juhar to reconsider the dissolution of the assembly as he has the simple majority of 33.
The Sibuga assemblyman also said the snap polls called by incumbent Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal was unnecessary as under the Constitution he was eligible to be appointed as the Chief Minister, this as he had sufficient numbers to form the new government.
He also questioned whether the intention of holding the snap election was for the benefit of the people or was merely a personal agenda.
"There are three more years before the next general election. Is the assembly dissolution for the people or personal gains? Why waste time?
"Do not burden the people. Furthermore, there is also the Covid-19 pandemic which will threaten the health of the public," the former Chief Minister said.
