PENAMPANG: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has made the right choice to contest for the 30-state seats in the upcoming state polls.
Its founder Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said the people were still fond of the party.
"If PBS is still using its own party logo, it will get positive response from the people as we have been fighting for Sabah since its inception (in 1985).
"PBS is a party that has never been lacking in spirit and efforts to defend the people's rights," he told reporters at the Huguan Siou Foundation office, here.
The 80-year-old Pairin, however, affirmed that he would rather enjoy his retirement after passing the party's leadership baton to Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.
On whether PBS should defend its traditional Tambunan state seat, Pairin said it would be up to the party leadership.
"I want PBS to win back the Tambunan seat, but I am no longer the president."
Tambunan was PBS' stronghold as Pairin had won the state seat since 1976 but lost it to his brother Datuk Dr Jeffrey during the 2018 general election.
As for the upcoming state snap polls, the former Chief Minister expected there would be many participations from different political parties including the Liberal Democratic Party and Parti Cinta Sabah.
Pairin, who is also the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) president, made it clear that the non-governmental organisation had nothing to do with politics.
The Huguan Siou, or paramount leader of Kadazandusun community, was responding to a Facebook post implicating KDCA deputy president Datuk John Anthony meeting with Parti Warisan Sabah.
"Datuk John's meeting did not represent KDCA, but on his own personal capacity."
